Abstract

As part of the improvement of modern methods of visualization of geospatial data at the Geophysical center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (GC RAS), a project on introducing spherical visualization methods in the domains of education and science is successfully developing. A prototype of the Russian hardware-software complex with a spherical projection screen running the specialized software ORBUS was developed and implemented (computer program registration certificate no.2014618293 from 14.08.2014). The software allows you to visualize data of different types without distortion: images, video, online streams, and other georeferenced data. The second version of the ORBUS 2.0 software includes the updated functionality: the list of data formats has been expanded, geodata visualization has been implemented directly from geoinformation systems (GIS), the method of displaying poles has been improved, the function of 3D models visualization and scaling has been added and the user interface functionality has been expanded. The developed demonstration complex is an effective tool for applied visualization of scientific data and is successfully utilized by Russian educational institutions and museums.
