Abstract: This article deals with problems of creating new visualization methods for set of time intervals, which contain time labels of the begin and the end of the some event. The investigation was conducted as part of the solution of signal situations visualization within the development of an automated system of information collection from PMU devices of WAMS, used in the brunches of "System Operator of the United Power System" Joint-stock Company ("SO UPS" JSC) of Russia. Gantt diagram (or chart) was applied as a base visualization method.
The implementation of this visualization method has created the opportunities for visual analysis of distribution of WAMS events when controlled parameters overrun the allowed range, to trace the history of such scenario, to estimate their relative impact and pattern of origin. This analysis is allowed as on the entire power system as on interesting regions for any period of time.
This approach has allowed experts of System Operator to expand the range of tasks for improvement the quality and reliability of electrical control regimes of the United Power System of Russia. The proposed approach is a convenient and highly useful to display any specialized type of information based on time intervals and in this sense can be used to solve a wide class of problems in the diagnosis of various systems and facilities, regardless of their destination.
